OGWAMA BOSS FAROUK AKINTUNDE EMPOWERS 110 APC MEMBERS, WELCOMES ADC DEFECTORS IN WARD 10
ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, has empowered 110 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 with financial and business support aimed at strengthening their economic activities and improving their livelihoods.
The empowerment programme, held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, saw 100 beneficiaries receive ₦50,000 each in cash, while another 10 selected beneficiaries were supported with business assistance valued at ₦25,000 each to boost their bread-selling businesses.
The beneficiaries were reportedly selected by APC leaders in Ward 10 as part of efforts to extend economic support to party members and encourage them to remain productive within their communities.
The initiative also witnessed the defection of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC, with the defectors declaring their support for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC Ward 10 Chairman, Mr Kehinde Olanrewaju, led members of the party to join the APC during the empowerment programme.
Explaining the decision, Olanrewaju said the ADC lacked the programmes, prospects and political strength required to compete effectively in the 2027 elections.
“I lead my members back to the All Progressives Congress because the African Democratic Congress lacks prospects, ideology and programmes, and the party cannot win any election come 2027. We are not losers but winners; we prefer being with the winning party,” he said.
The latest empowerment is not the first intervention by Akintunde in the ward. It could be recalled that the OGWAMA boss had, some weeks ago, he empowered more than 150 party members with cash support, with the exercise reportedly costing close to ₦7 million.
Speaking with journalists during the latest programme, Akintunde urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and channel the funds into activities capable of generating additional income.
He explained that even a relatively modest amount could make a meaningful difference when invested wisely in an existing business.
According to him, beneficiaries should see the ₦50,000 support as seed capital capable of strengthening their businesses and improving their daily economic activities rather than spending it without a clear purpose.
Akintunde further assured party members that he would continue to provide cash support to members of the party as part of his efforts to assist them with their daily needs and economic challenges.
The programme attracted prominent APC members and political stakeholders, including the former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni-Gomez, Alhaji Imaila Odejimi, and Alhaji Nurudeen Olaleye Alawoerin of Egbaland, among other party leaders and dignitaries.
The gathering provided an opportunity for party members to interact with political leaders, while the defection of the ADC members added another political dimension to the empowerment exercise.
The development is expected to further strengthen the APC structure in Ward 10, particularly as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
The empowerment programme also underscored the growing emphasis on grassroots mobilisation, economic assistance and party engagement as political parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.
