2027: Hon. Rotimi Makinde Formally Declares for House of Reps, Seeks APC Leaders’ Blessing in Ife
IFE, OSUN STATE – As the political atmosphere for the 2027 general elections begins to take shape, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former federal lawmaker, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Ife Federal Constituency.
The declaration took place during a high-level consultative visit to the APC Council of Elders for the Ife Federal Constituency, which encompasses Ife North, South, East, Central, and the Modakeke Area Office.
The meeting, held at the residence of the former Deputy Governor of Osun State and a highly revered leader of the "Progressive" fold in Ife Land, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin, served as a strategic platform for Makinde to interface with the party's foundation builders and stakeholders.
A Return to Service
During the session, Hon. Makinde—who previously represented the constituency at the National Assembly—presented a comprehensive "scorecard" of his past achievements. He emphasized that his decision to return to the Green Chamber is fueled by a commitment to inclusive politics and a desire to consolidate the development of Ife Land.
"I am here today to formally seek your blessings and support as I offer myself once again to serve our people," Makinde told the elders. "My vision remains rooted in party unity and the socio-economic advancement of every corner of Ife Federal Constituency."
Strategic Consultations
The consultative visit was described by attendees as "fruitful and cordial." By choosing to start his journey with the Council of Elders, Makinde has signaled his respect for the party hierarchy and the importance of elder-statesmen in the political process of Osun State.
Responding on behalf of the leaders, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin acknowledged Makinde's contributions to the party and the constituency over the years. The elders provided guidance and blessings, reinforcing the importance of maintaining peace and unity within the APC as the primaries approach.
The Road to 2027
Hon. Makinde, a well-known figure in both the political and entertainment sectors, is widely regarded for his grassroots mobilization skills. His supporters believe his experience as a former lawmaker gives him an edge in navigating the complexities of federal legislation to the benefit of the Ife people.
In his closing remarks, Makinde expressed deep gratitude to the party leaders for their "unwavering support and fatherly guidance," promising that his full manifesto and vision for the constituency would be unveiled to the public in the coming weeks.
As the race for the Ife Federal Constituency seat intensifies, Makinde’s early move is seen by many political analysts as a bold step to solidify his base and unify the various interests within the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.
